La Cieneguilla Petroglyphs Site.


KW here.  So we are walking up to the rocks that have the petroglyphs, when Mrs Tour guide says, Oh look at that beautiful flower.  As the Tour guide turns to look, in a very low voice he says, STOP, THERE IS A RATTLE SNAKE.  Now being the brave guy I am, I stay in the bag to protect AC and LH, while the Tour guide stops to take a picture.  We calmly walk on by to hunt for the glyphs.

Tour guide just runs up the rocks.  Mrs Tour guide says he is brave.  I think he is just crazy.


Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and fellow WB cartoon characters, sit back and enjoy the Petroglyphs.  Mrs. Tour guide has a book that tells what they mean.  Maybe we can get her to share that information one day.

Carins
The word comes from the Gaelic for "heap of stones" and many can be quite beautiful.  Carins can be good things when they are done right.  Properly built they help mark trails to keep hikers from getting lost and can endure for decades.

Petroglyphs
Petroglyphs are images created by removing part of a rock surface by incising, picking, carving, or abrading, as a form of rock art.  Outside of North America, scholars often use terms such as "carving", "engraving", or other descriptions of the technique to refer to such images.

The first stop was Los Alamos Visitors Center.


This was Dr. Robert Oppenheimer's desk and chair.

Hey Tour guide, why is it that when we go to these sites Mrs. Tour guide gets her picture taken with tall young men?  KW, it has only happened twice. Well, I don't like it. I remember that Italian Stallion guy from Italy when we were in Mount Rushmore NMEM.


Hey Tour guide, who are these two guys we are getting our picture taken with?  Well, LH and CJ are with Dr. Robert Oppenheimer, and you are with Lieutenant General Leslie Richard Groves, Jr.  Oh ok, where have I heard their names before?  Hey wait a minute, these guys invented the nuclear bomb.  Now I'm going to have to go in the clean room and shower off.  KW, there is no radiation around here anymore.  Well,  if you say so Tour guide, but I will shower when we got back to the room.


This was a school taken over by the Federal Government during WWII for the scientists to live and work on the bomb.

Hey Tour guide, they had TV back in the 1100's?  No KW, that is a Pictograph.  Oh ok, because it looks like a test pattern when the TV station used to go off air.

The Manhattan Project was a research and development undertaking during World War II that produced the first nuclear weapons.  It was led by the United States with support of the United Kingdom and Canada.  From 1942 to 1946, the project was under the direction of Major General Leslie Groves of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.  Nuclear physicist Robert Oppenheimer was the director of the Los Alamos Laboratory that designed the actual bombs.

Petroglyphs and pictographs represent two distinctive methods for producing rock art.  Petroglyphs are carved or pecked into an exposed rock surface, while pictographs are painted onto those surfaces.

Oh great Tour guide more signs pointing both ways.  It's ok KW, Mrs. Tour guide is driving.  Oh yeah, she is a great navigator.  Plus Elenor helps with directions.  The only problem with Elenor is she is always saying "proceed to the route".  If I knew the route, I would not need her.

Hey Tour guide, I need a piece of leather and a rubber band. Why do you need that?  I found this piece of wood  on the trail and I thought I could make a slingshot.  KW, you'll put your eye out with a slingshot.  Tour guide, to put my eye out I would need a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun, at least that is what they told the boy in the Christmas Story.
