Joshua Tree part two.

Another day hiking in Joshua Tree. Searching for Arch Rock and Heart Rock. 

Mrs. tour guide climbing rocks. 


Still climbing the same rock. 


Yep, the same rock. 


Her objective has been reached. 


She who goes up must come down. 

Almost there. 


Almost there. 

Finally down. Found the Arch Rock, but not the Heart Rock.

The rock piles began eons ago as a result of volcanic activity. Magma--in this case a molten form of the rock called mondo-granite--rose from deep within the Earth. As it rose, it intruded the overlying rock, the Punto gneiss formation. 

An eon refers to 1 billion years.

KW here and I have a story to tell you. You just won't believe what I have to tell. We will get to the second day in Joshua tree NP later.  But first. Cruise talker, your brother has done it again and not in mud. This time in sand, yes I said sand. 

Oh yeah, he buried it. 

Mrs. tour got down on her hands and knees and started digging out with a plastic bag. Tour guide used his boot to dig. 


Like I said, buried deep. 


Jim and Mary Ann from Michigan stopped to help.  He had a cable to pull us out. 

You can not tell how deep this hole is. 

After about and hour and a half of digging, trying to get out. Walaa, we are out.
