KW finally does his wrap up

Photos courtesy of Mrs Tour Guide

Turn on the Hotel TV and we are asked how our stay is so far. Just point the remote and click.

Still asking if we are liking our stay. Very large watering can. Mural on a bank wall. Street view. Two old Statues.

Walking up steps to a great art exhibit with a very nice Antique Mall on the first floor.

Stickers from various people during Covid visits to the Presidential Library. The large yellow sticker was placed on the board by Mrs Tour Guide.

More pictures from the Wilson museum and the WWI exhibit.

Stamping, antiquing, eating, Mural, artist exhibit, and speedometer showing 100 degrees in the car.

Beautiful Flowers at the West Virginia Visitors Center.
Black eyed Susan's.

KW says this is a Hibiscus, or Giant Rose Mallow. We will wait for advise from the resident horticulture expert in the family. a. k. a. Bonnie.

This Tow Truck appeared the QB # 464. Tour guide wishes it was in his collection.

This is a 3" version, no paint left on it with parts missing.  So at $38 it remains in the case.

Until the next adventure begins.

Heading Home

Wow, there is still a lot of room in this trunk. I guess mrs tour guide did not buy much at the old peoples stores, or Walmart. Hey tour guide, can we ride back here with the top up? Sorry KW, no you can't. Way too dangerous.

Cracker barrel for breakfast. Hey tour guide, can I use your glasses? This print is way too small.

Hey tour guide, what does this say? What language is this? KW, it's upside down.

OK, I have no thumbs to hold this fork.

Oh come on man, now this straw is too tall.

CJ, you get the check, I'll pay you back. Now where have I heard this before?

Only one old peoples store today.

Mrs tour guide bought a cassette case for $2.

Tour guide bought a WWII model of a Lockheed P-38J Lightning plane for $3.

A few more pictures from the Woodrow Wilson Library. These are old U. S. Government War Bonds advertising.

PS. Stay tuned for future trips.

Woodrow Wilson 28th President of USA

Thomas Woodrow Wilson was an American politician and academic who served as the 28th president of the United States from 1913 to 1921. A member of the Democratic Party, Wilson served as the president of Princeton University and as the governor of New Jersey before winning the 1912 presidential election.

Wilson Museun.

Roll Top Desk used by Woodrow Wilson as a Professor and then as the President at Princeton University.

His bookcase with most of his books and study desk.

Telephone used in the White House.

The 1916 Election. No KW, there were no mail in ballots.

When Woodrow Wilson returned from France after negotiating the Treaty of Versailles in 1919, a new Pierce-Arrow limousine awaited him at the dock in New York to take him back to Washington.  The automobile had just been added to the White House fleet. Wilson favored this automobile so much that when he left office his friends purchased it for him to use.  The car had received its finishing touches at the plant of the manufacturer, the Pierce-Arrow Motor Car Company of Buffalo, New York, in June 1919.  It was the 120th of the "Series 51" model. They paid $3,000 for it. Yes bro, it was a lot. Today that $3,000 would be equivalent to $45,116.48.

The Virginia General Assembly established Statuton as a town in 1761 and the town was formally incorporated in 1801. When the Virginia Central Railroad arrived in 1854, Staunton became a transportation hub, and during the Civil War, Staunton was the site of a supply base. If you pronounced it Staunton instead of Stanton, you were considered a British Spy.

Masonic Lodge.

Pictures of downtown.

Now for some Old Peoples Stores. Hey Bro, this looks like your old telephone truck, minus a few items.

This is part of a 1950's Santa suit, the shirt and pants were in the box along with this mask. Mrs tour guide's Grandfather would wear this on Christmas morning. She never did figure out it was him.

Mrs tour guide with Betty Boop. As you can see from her expression she is not one of her favorites.

Lunch at Pampered Palate. Tour guide had one of the best ever Pastrami on marbled rye with chopped pickles. Mrs tour guide had awesome chicken salad.

Mrs tour guide had one small piece of bread with whipped butter. I put a smidgen of this butter on a bite of my sandwich, and to quote a famous chef from Louisiana, BAM !!

This WWI exhibit in the Woodrow Wilson Museun, is one of the most impressive exhibits we have ever seen. When you walk into the room, guns start firing, bombs blowing up, orders being yelled out by all sides. Very realistic.

Trenching tools.

Weapons used in the war. Bottom: France Chauchat light machine gun. Middle: German anti-tank rifle. Top: first German anti-tank rifle.

As seen on the wall.

Example of trench warfare. The scope was used to see where the enemy was without getting shot.

Example of a medical facility.

What the trenches looked like.

German machine gun and a section of a machine gun belt made out of cloth.

PS: When we got back in the car after a busy day downtown, the thermometer registered 100.

Two new stamps for mrs tour guides Presidential Libraries book.
