KW's Weekend Recap

06222018 (Theodore Roosevelt NP - Painted Canyon Visitors Center)

Dickinson North Dakota will be our destination for the next three days.

Hey Tour guide, it looks like we are almost there.

Entering the Painted Canyon South Unit.

WOW, Tour guide, the vastness of Theodore Roosevelt NP is immense.  KW, are you using my thesaurus? What are you talking about Tour guide?  I do know some big words.  My vocabulary is not enormous, but it is huge.

Mrs. Tour guide stamping.

Getting ready to hike the trail.

The Painted Canyon Nature Trail.

Hey Tour guide, is that B?  No KW, he stayed home this trip.  Well, it sure looks like him.  Hey, he just snorted at me.  Now I know it's not B.

Hey Tour guide, why is he rolling back and forth?  He's just scratching.

This sure is one big place.

Hurry it up KW, it's going to rain, take the picture.

Hey guys, this is supposed be an Usie, why are you facing the wrong way?

Hey KW, look at these boxes of rocks.  Oh, that's really nice Tour guide, (yawn).  Have you looked at all the big rocks out side?

I'm king of the hill.

Hey, does anyone have a signal?

CANNON BALL!!  KW, what are you doing?  These are cannon balls Tour guide.  They look like big round rocks.  Tour guide, they are called cannon balls.

Hey tour guide is there someone else behind me?  No, KW, I only see CJ.

OK, but I'm sure there is someone else back there.  Take another look.  Oh yeah, now I see him.  I forgot to tell you.  Mrs. Tour guide picked him yesterday.  His name is L. H. Douglas.  He is a Longhorn.  OK, but I will call him LH.

Hey Tour guide, slow down, the road is blocked with a herd of buffalo.  Slow down, they may come back and charge us.  Please pull over.  KW, they will not bother us.

Oh brother, I've seen it all now, the Tour guides are taking an Usie with the buffalo.  KW, Mrs. Tour guide says it's a Groupie with more than two.  Well I looked it up in the Urban Dictionary and it says Usie.  Well you two can sort it out.

It has started to rain with this herd heading on to another place.

A lone straggler.

PS:

Theodore Roosevelt National Park
Theodore Roosevelt NP lies in western North Dakota, where the Great Plains meet the rugged Badlands.  A habitat for bison, elk and prairie dogs, the sprawling park has 3 sections linked by the Little Missouri River.  The park is known for the South Unit's colorful Painted Canyon and the Maltese Cross Cabin, where President Roosevelt once lived.  The Scenic Loop Drive winds past several overlooks and trails.

Texas Longhorn
The Texas Longhorn is a breed of cattle known for its characteristic horns, which can extend to over 1.8 m (5 feet 10 inches) tip to tip for bulls and 2.1 m (6 feet 10 inches) tip to tip for steers and exceptional cows.

Buffalo or Bison
It's so common, in fact, that we sometimes use the two interchangeably.  But if you really want to know the difference between a buffalo and a bison, the American Bison is native to North and South America and Europe, while the other two buffalo species reside in Africa and Asia.
