The Homestead Act Quilt was donated to the park for dedication of the Heritage Center.
This is South Dakota and Nebraska. The square cut out on each shows the amount of homestead land was given out by the Government.

The Homestead Act of 1862 offered people 160 acres of free land - if they were willing to live on it, farm it, and build a home. There were 30 Homesteading States in which the government gave away 270 million acres.
